Figgy

Well, the garden puppies had all been born. Most of them were born out in the Garden itself, but the last few were born in the library. Luna’s work was all done, and she rested in the quiet library, nursing her six puppies.

BUT THEN.

Cameron, the little-seen co-owner of Castle Grogan, came running in from the yard yelling “Puppy number seven! Puppy number seven!”

In his hands was a little blenheim girl he and Juliet had found under a fig tree out in the yard. We named her Figgy in it’s honor.

He had been out doing some work in the yard while Kelsey and Kayla and Luna all rested from the morning’s work. Juliet was helping him out, when they both heard the unmistakable cry of a puppy somewhere out there!

Juliet scoured the yard and there, underneath the fig tree, she found a tiny puppy crying out. The fig tree had kept her shaded from the summer sun, and she was still attached to the placenta.

She was one tough puppy! She had survived six hours outside while Luna was birthing her sisters and one brother.

The best we can figure, during one of Luna’s laps around the yard she must have dropped Figgy and we didn’t notice! And then Luna must have gotten so busy with the next puppy that she forgot to go back for her!

Well, we cleaned her off (some pollen had settled on her and stuck to her fur!) and cut the umbilical cord. Then we let Luna give her a good smell, and Luna immediately started licking her and taking her into the puppy pile. We got her nursing and she was good as new!

Figgy grew just as well as her sisters and one brother did. She turned into a playful little girl!

Well, our little surprise puppy goes by Abby now and she lives a life of ease with a little pack of Cavaliers in Arkansas. She even has a boyfriend and may one day make little puppies just as strong and sweet as she was! We love our Figgy girl!
